Tastes of Euganean Hills

Jujube liqueur is definitely the most original product of Arquà Petrarca, but not the only one: just remember our olive-groves and vineyards. And discover our authentic tastes: our raw ham, the "schissotto" bread, our traditional cheeses.

Jujubes

Jujubes (“zizzole”) are not very common, but they grow abundantly on our hills: reddish brown berries with white - green flesh, floury but with a sweet and sour flavour. Autumn is their season - and in fall we celebrate them with our “Jujube Festival”. We make cakes with jujube, but the speciality is our “Brodo di Giuggiole”, a jujube liqueur, made with jujubes, grapes and quinces.

Bread and ham

The schissotto is a squashed bread made with flour and lard. Taste it with our typical salami and row ham.

Cherries

Few miles from Arquà, at Torreglia, Luxardo Distillers have been producing liquors (like "Maraschino") and syrups for over 180 years - all very useful to prepare original cakes! And the cherry blossom here is a sight not to be missed!

Olive oil

Olive trees grow well here, and our oil has been rewarded with the Protected Denomination of Origin (P.D.O.) "Veneto extra virgin olive oil". Several varieties of olives are cultivated in the region. At local olive mills you'll find single variety oil (monocultivar "Rasara") ) or mixed varieties ones ("Rasara", "Leccino", "Frantoio"). Olives are still picked by hand and then cold pressed. Our extra virgin oil is a medium density, fruity one, with herbal notes, and a bit spicy in the end. Oil tasting at our restaurant sometimes, or visit Colli del Poeta Oil Mill.

Wine

The Colli Euganei Wine Route winds through vineyards of 13 different D.O.C (Controlled Denomination of Origin) wines: Bianco, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Fior d'Arancio, Merlot, Moscato, Novello, Pinello, Pinot Bianco, Rosso, Serprino e Tocai Italico.
